SDNP Annual Work Plan for the Year 1998 - 99

 
The primary goal of the SDNP-India is to promote the process of sustainable development through organized accessibility to and exchange of information among all concerned parties. Participants in sustainable development include government bodies, academic and research institutes, non-governmental organizations, grassroot and enterpreneurial organizations. The SDNP-India is funded jointly by UNDP and IDRC and is being implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.

This goal is to be achieved over a period of three years by fulfilling these three objectives:

  1. Establish and Operate a Distributed Clearinghouse
  2. Organize an SDNP Association
  3. Coordinate and Manage SDNP-India

The first year’s (1998-99) workplan aims at meeting the objective 1 by undertaking a series of tasks as outlined in the following pages. This Creation Phase during the first year will lay the foundation for the work to be carried out by the SDNP-India in the second and third years of the Programme.

ANNEXURE I

SDNP Staff

 

The SDNP Office (at MoEF in Delhi) will have the following professional and support staff:

One Computer Professional
One Information Scientist
One Programme Officer

One Administrative Co-ordinator
One Personal Assistant
One Secretarial Assistant
One Office Boy/Messenger

This list excludes one Computer Professional based at NCST, Bombay. The recruitment and appointment of this Computer Professional will be made jointly by the NCST and UNDP.

SDNP Office Equipment Requirements

To set up the SDNP office, the following equipment and facilities will need to be purchased/provided:
1. Office Furniture
Tables and Chairs
Wooden Partitions and Wooden Almirah


2. Infrastructural Facilities
Electricity Cabling for the servers, printers, computers, photocopier, etc.
Two telephone lines
Internet cabling
PABX connection
Miscellaneous furnishing work such as repairing/sealing of windows, repairing/installation of lighting fixtures, etc.

 

3. Equipments/items to be Purchased
One Fax Machine
One Photocopier
One Airconditioner
One UPS
Diskettes, CD-ROMs, etc.
Softwares (MicroSoft Office, etc.)
Stationary, computer/photocopier papers, etc.
Printing of SDNP Letterpad, visiting cards, Identity cards, Name Board (to be put outside the office)

 

ANNEXURE III

 

1. Criteria for Selecting Existing ENVIS Centers as SDNP Nodes

 
Staff dedicated to ENVIS activities
Activities of the Center (journal, newsletter, abstracts, etc.)
Computer availability and usage at the Center
Development of any (manual or electronic) database
Achievements since inception

 

2. Criteria for Selecting New SDNP Nodes

 
Availability of (trained) staff
- Relevance of work to sustainable development
- Existence of (manual or electronic) database
- Activities (journal, newsletter, abstracts, etc.)
- Accessibility to the internet

ANNEXURE IV
SDNP-India Intranet

 
The SDNP-India intranet will be used for sharing information among the SDNP Office in Delhi and its various nodes spread across the country. The SDNP intranet will be accessible to the all the SDNP nodes, the NPA, the NPD, and all the members of the NSC.

 
The SDNP-India intranet will be hosted on the world wide web and all the members of this intranet will have password protected access to it. Later, this will also be supplemented by an email discussion group which will be used for various discussions and announcements.

ANNEXURE V

BBS/Electronic Forums/Email Discussion Groups

 

1. BBS (Bulletin Board System)

A BBS will be set up and it will have many electronic discussion areas on topics related with sustainable development. Each discussion area will be moderated by an interested individual (to be identified from amongst the users). The BBS will have facilities for posting messages and on-line chat system.

 

2. Electronic Forums
hese will be hosted on the world wide web. Like BBS, these forums will focus on topics related with sustainable development. The electronic forums will be open to all.

3. Email Discussion Groups
Email discussion groups will be hosted on general and specialized topics. Email discussion groups are one of the most effective ways of sharing information among the interested individuals (both at country and global levels).
